Jiribam, April 18:

The Jiribam District which is the western boundary of Manipur adjacent to Assam State makes it mandatory for all persons to produce negative COVID-19 test reports while entering Manipur.
The order was issued by Manipur Health Department on April 15 and it was effective from 18th April, 2021 as a preventive measure to curve out the State from the second surging wave of COVID-19 which badly affected some of the States of India.
The irony was that the person has to produce a negative RT-PCR/ TrueNat/CB-NAAT COVID-19 test report which is taken within 72 hours from arrival in Manipur. But such test facilities for COVID-19 are not available in Jiribam District or at the adjacent places of Cachar District of Assam.
In such a critical situation, the biggest questions among the people were, where to procure the above mentioned COVID-19 test.  The Jiribam District lies in the eastern Side of Jiri River and the State boundary of Manipur whereas on the other side of the river is Jirighat, Cachar District of Assam.
The people of Jiribam and Jirighat are interdependent to one another for their survival in various aspects of life. “In such an atmosphere to what extent it is applicable among the people of the localities which lies in both sides of Jiri river”, are questioned by the people.
