37 doctors test positive for COVID-19 at Delhi’s Sir Gangaram Hospital

At least 37 doctors of 675-bed multi-speciality private hospital-Sir Gangaram Hospital located in Rajendra Nagar, Delhi have tested positive for coronavirus, as per the hospital sources.
“37 doctors of the hospital have tested positive for COVID-19 while treating COVID-19 patients. A majority of these health care warriors have mild symptoms. 32 doctors are in home isolation and 5 are admitted in the hospital” hospital sources said.
Delhi Government has issued an order directing 115 private hospitals to reserve 50 per cent of their total ICU and ward bed capacity for COVID-19 patients amid the massive spike in coronavirus cases. Also, Delhi Government has ordered an increase in the total number of beds reserved for COVID-19 patients from 1000 to 1500 at Lok Nayak Hospital and from 500 to 1000 at GTB Hospital. The Government has also ordered Dental and Ayush doctors to be deployed at COVID-19 hospitals in Delhi.
In view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a meeting with chief ministers amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in several states.  ”The number of tests being done on daily basis needs to be significantly increased with the aim to reduce positivity to 5% or less, with focused and targeted testing in containment zones and areas where clusters of cases are being reported,” said PM Modi during a meeting with Chief Ministers.
Delhi reported a significant spike in new COVID-19 cases by registering as many as 7,437 fresh cases and 24 related deaths in last 24 hours, the health department informed on Thursday evening. 5,506 cases were reported on Wednesday. Thursday’s spike was the highest single-day rise witnessed in Delhi since November 19 last year when 7,546 COVID-19 cases were registered.
India’s total active caseload reached 9,79,608. It comprised 7.50% of the country’s total positive cases. A net incline of 69,289 cases recorded from the total active caseload in the last 24 hours. The five states of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala cumulatively accounted for 73.24% of India’s total active cases. Maharashtra alone accounted for 53.84% of the total active caseload of the country.
In Maharashtra the number of active cases rose up to 5.01 lakhs with addition of 59,907 new cases on Thursday. Active cases in other states were: Chhatisgarh-58,883, Karnataka-49273, Uttar Pradesh-31,987, Kerala-31806, Tamil Nadu-27,743, Delhi-19,455, Gujarat-18,684, Rajasthan-18,146, West Bengal-14,290 and Andhra Pradesh-13,276.
No death reported
Twelve States/UTs did not reported any COVID19 deaths. They were: Rajasthan, Odisha, Puducherry, Ladakh (UT), Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Mizoram, Lakshadweep, A&N Islands and Arunachal Pradesh.
Vaccination
The cumulative number of COVID19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 9.43 Crore on Thursday. Cumulatively,  9,43,34,262 vaccine doses were administered through 14,28,500 sessions. These include 89,74,511 Health Care Workers, who took the 1st dose and 54,49,151 Health Care workers who took the 2nd dose, 98,10,164 Front Line Workers, (1stdose), 45,43,954 Front Line Workers (2nd dose), 3,75,68,033 beneficiaries (1st dose) and 13,61,367 beneficiaries (2nd dose) - over 60 years and 2,61,03,814 beneficiaries (1st dose) and 5,23,268 beneficiaries (2nd dose) - aged 45 to 60.
