Imphal, April 07:

Showing serious concern over the mysterious death of A Sanaton, who was found hung inside his hostel room at RIMS on March 15, the Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) demanded Independent Impartial Investigation Commission having an Rtd. Judge of High Court of Manipur, Members of CSOs, member of Justice for Sanaton Athokpam, Rtd. ADGP to probe the death of Sanaton at the earliest. The YFPHR however appreciated the government for constituting Magisterial enquiry into the suspicious death , but said that taking out the family member from the purview of the enquiry has been questioned.
On the other hand the Forum urged the Government of Manipur to investigate against the Lamphel Police Station for its failure to investigate the death of Sanaton and also urged the National Medical Commission (NMC) to initiate enquiry over the RIMS authority over the death of Sanaton.
The YFPHR said that after their fact finding team visited at the residence of the deceased person, it has come to know that none of his family members were made participated by the investigation agency during the time of conducting the post mortem which clearly indicates of some foul play over the death of Sanaton.
The Forum also expressed strong condemnation to the concern jurisdictional police station for not registering an FIR at the initial stage beside witnessing the prima facie evidences such as tying of both the wrist on back , marks on the face and back sides of the body, injured little toe, etc which has a clear sign that the death of Sanaton is controversial in nature, however, the repeated effort to make the death of Sanaton as an act of suicide is highly questionable and why the police failed to cooperate with the family members of the deceased person on being requested to register an FIR is yet another sad reality on the negligence of Police to conduct an investigation.
YFPHR said that they are all set to write special letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs, National Human Rights Commission, National Medical Commission and to the Governor of Manipur to initiate proper investigation over the death of Sanaton at the earliest.
