Babysana death case: Five accuses likely to be freed as CBI fails to submit charge sheet

The five accused of the suspicious death of 14 years old school going girl, N. Babysana, who was found hung to death in mysterious circumstances inside her hostel room of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School on July 18, 2019, is likely to be freed as CBI fails to submit the final report as the high profile Independent investigating Agency could not file the charge sheet.
As per an order of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, it is stated that the Additional Superintendent of Police CBI, SCB Kolkatta had filed a final report in connection to the case. As per the report, the CBI cannot submit a charge sheet against the 4 accused persons as no evidence emerged during the investigation that the accused persons were part of a common intention to murder, or abetment of suicide of Babysana Chanu or neither they found the accused persons to be cruel to the child or had cheated any persons.
The final report was filed under section 173 of the Cr. P.C . by the Additional SP of the CBI, SCB Kolkatta.
As per the order by the Chief Judicial Magistrate the next hearing of the case is fixed on April 28 of 2021 and has directed the CBI to submit the articles or documents and statements of the witnesses to the court.
It may be mentioned that there was a hue and cry to probe the case of the mysterious death of the 14 years old school-going girl by handing it over to the CBI. The state government had earlier instituted a Special Investigation Team to find out the cause of the death and had even started investigating the case by pulling up whoever is connected to find the cause of the death. However, as the JAC formed against the death of the schoolgirl had demanded handing over the case to CBI even by calling bandh in the state. Protest rallies had been staged at many places.
The accused in the case include the Founder of the Standard Robarth English School, Pheiroijam Ongbi Longjam Ningol Landhoni Devi (Aged 65), and her sons and daughters as well as the warden of the hostel which Babysana was found hung to death. As many as 37 others were staying at the dormitory hostel where the 14 years old hostelite was found dead. The locals and family members of the 14 years old girl may have died due to harassment from the school authority.
