NEDF appeals to provide temporary shelter to victims of military oppression in Myanmar

The North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF) had urged the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the Union External Affairs Minister to provide temporary shelter to those who face the act of prosecution in Myanmar by the Myanmar Military in the Indian side with support for food, health care etc.
The Forum in a memorandum submitted to the Union External Affairs Minister, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar also urged the Government of India to communicate with Military leaders via Indian Embassy in Yangon by organizing dialogue with the citizens, civil organizations, religious bodies across the table to stop violence by both sides of conflict and find reasonable solutions by the people in Myanmar. Besides, the Forum also appealed to prepare for a team of delegation to visit Myanmar to take stock of the situation of suffering of people.
The North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF) is a network of civil society organizations, academic, women organizations, Farmers Groups, young people in the North East India.
The memorandum submitted term the recent Military coup as unfortunate to the democratic process of the people in Myanmar.
“Whatever the reason, the past is past. Now many citizens of Myanmar specially inhabited at the border of Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh are under constant fear of prosecution. In this couple of weeks many were injured at Tamu (very near to Moreh) and more than 5 people were killed and more than 30 people injured in Kalay and Tahan (Twin Township)”, the memorandum said.
The Forum further said that they had received the information of about 26 Myanmar citizens about to cross the border but they were politely requested to return to their place of origin on March 26, 2021.
The helpless citizens of Myanmar went back with tears and stated that they are asking us to be killed in the hand of the security forces in our country. The group of people includes small children, babies, pregnant women, old age etc., it added.
The memorandum was signed by Dr. P. B. M. Basaiawmoit, Consultant NEDF and Anthony Debbarma, Member of the Forum.
A copy of the memorandum was also submitted to the Governor of Manipur Dr. Najma Heptulla .
