When Manipuris in Assam demanded to include Manipuri as an optional subject to the TET examination as well as in any government job recruitment in Assam, the Manipuris across the state of Assam make no differences and stand united, but during election time Manipuris in Assam fails to unite. Even the Chief Minister of Manipur who was given a grand reception at other functions was given less importance when the visit is related to public meetings during election time.
This is being stated as reporters witness little presence of Manipuris in a meeting held at Rajiv Bhavan Auditorium, at Silchar Park Road yesterday which the Chief Minister of Manipur attended as Chief Guest.
Some observers said that the reason for less presence of Manipuri in the function organized by the All Assam Manipuri Youth Association was due to hours of delay from the scheduled time and is not related to the cause of the ongoing election. The function was originally scheduled at 8 am but started at around 2 pm.
The Function was organized with the theme ‘Precious Day’ and has no connection with the upcoming election, said an observer. But it is natural that the function be assumed connected with the upcoming Assam election.
Mention may be made that, before the function, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren along with Education Minister S. Rajen, MLA L Rameshwor, MLA L Sushindro, and MLA N. Indrajit from Manipur had visited Silchar and Lakhimpur of Assam and had attended a meeting with various Manipuris including Meetei Meitei and the Muslim and interacted on various issues.
Source said that the Manipur’s Chief Minister and his team also donated monetary assistant for renovation of Vaishnav temple of the Manipuris at Lakhimpur.
There were also reports of other MLAs meeting with other Assam Based Manipuri organizations like the Manipuri Youths Front of Assam (MYFA).
