The programme was organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Manipur Centre (KVK-Ukhrul); The Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur and Khamasom Walely Village Authority, Ukhrul District, Manipur. The programme was inaugurated with Introduction by K. Vareiyo, Principal, Yang Academy, Khamasom Walely and Dr. Atom Sunil Singh, Director, AIMS, Manipur. Prof. N. The Keynote of programme was addressed by Dr. Solei Luram, Head, KVK, Ukhrul. He reveals the reason why Khamasom Walely Village is a Honey Bee Village. The village is the centre of seven cluster villages, namely Khamasom Khayangkho, Khamasom Phungdhar, Khamasom Phungrei in the North; Sihai Khullen, Sihai Khunou and Sihai Kahaophung in the South. Naturally, Khamasom has the rare distinction of being endowed with a Virgin forest that enables the availability of flower throughout the year, which fulfils the pre-requisite condition for the success of the honey bee project.

Khamasom Walely Village is geographically, socially, economically and culturally most suitable to declare as a bee village. A memorandum was submitted to open a National Slopeland Honey Bee Research Institute at Khamasom Walely Village.

Dr. R.K. Ranjan also expressed that the establishment of a National Honey Bee Research Institute would pave the way in revolutionizing the economy of the village from subsistence to sustainable farming. He will initiate the National Slopeland through the line departments. He also expressed to develop the latest innovative and scientific methods for apiculture. Honey can be used as an alternative to sugar for diabetic patients. In such a way, sugar cube can be replaced by the honey cube.

In order to fulfill  Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approach of one district one product, Dr. Ranjan further urges for one village one product. Khamasom Walely Village is very reasonable for the bee village.

The programme is followed by mass plantation and awareness programme of yongchak at Khamasom Phungrei and cane and bamboo at Khamasom Khamasom Phungdhar. Worthing Horam, General Secretary, Manipur State Unit, Naga People’s Front (NPF) and Phillips A, Soso, Social Worker, Khamasom Phungdhar are presented to share their experiences during the programme.
