Union Education Minister assures appointment of Regular VC for Manipur University

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal had assured the RS MP of Manipur Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba to appoint a regular Vice-Chancellor of the Manipur Central University.
The assurance for the appointment of a regular VC of Manipur University has been assured today morning by the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal during the meeting with the RS MP of Manipur, Sanajaoba at the former’s residence at 27 Safdarjung Road New Delhi. Sanajaoba also submitted a brief history of Manipur University and the need for the appointment of a regular VC which remains vacant and has been looked after by in-charge VC for the last few years.
Manipur University was established in 1980 by the act of the state legislature and was converted into a central university by a Parliamentary Act on October 13, 2005.
In his presentation to the Union Education Minister, Sanajaoba stated that the incumbent VC was dismissed by the University visitor in February 2020, an advertisement has been circulated for the appointment of VC in March 2020.
He said that since November 2018, the University was controlled by Court Appointed Administrator till November 30, 2020, when the High Court of Manipur discharged him from his responsibility. From 10 December onwards, the university has been controlled by 2 VC –in-charge, the present one succeeding the earlier one on February 1, 2021 after the superannuation of the earlier one.
Sanajaoba also reminded the Education Minister regarding the process of appointing a VC from among the shortlisted candidates who applied for the post. The interview for the appointment of the regular VC was conducted on August 19 and August 20, 2020.
MP Sanajaoba also told the Union Minister that the selection panel has already submitted a shortlisted candidate for the post to the Ministry, but the appointment has not to be finalized to date, he brought the notice to the Union Education Ministry.
“This has created a lot of academic and administrative problems of the University”, the Maharaja said.
He further added that appointment of regular teaching and non-teaching staffs, procurement of laboratory equipment and books, and providing minimum facilities to the hostels and classrooms of various departments are being hampered due to the absence of regular VC since 2018, Further, the University could not hold court meeting and convocation since 2015.
