One day training programme on & capacity Building on fire fighting Methods for frontline staff, NGOs and village communities held

A one-day “Training & capacity Building on fire fighting Methods for frontline staff, NGOs and village communities” was organised by Chande] Forest Division under Forest Fire, Protection & Management Scheme, 2020-21 on 12™ Feb 2021 at Forest complex, Chandel Forest Division.
The Training was a successful one in spite of some unwanted elements trying to derail the programme. It was attended by staffs of Chandel Forest Division, Chiefs of many Villages of Chandel, Youth Club members from NYK and village communities.
Mr. Bidhan Cahandra Leitongbam, MD Synergy Engineering & Environmental solutions, first addressed the participants on how to remove fire hazards like, pine needles, saw dusts, oil cakes from mustard oil extraction & straw and utilize them as fuel in place of firewood. He requested the village chiefs that collection of those products are all year round income generating activities. He assured that he will help in briquetting of those ‘bio-wastes’ and provide the technology to every Village who are interested.
The session was followed by theoretical session on fire and _ its characteristics. The session was led by Mr. Surchandra, Sub-officer, HQ. Fire Department, Imphal, Mr. H. Megha Singh, Sub-officer & OC, Chandel and his team. The session included demonstration of different classes of fire on their corresponding fire extinguishers.
The demo session was followed by field demonstration of fire line creation and how to extinguish uncontrolled burning.
Post Lunch an ‘Awareness Programme on CM’s ‘ Green Manipur Mission’ was organised at the same venue. Dr. Vivek Vaishnav, Asst. Professor, Agroforestry Manipur University and Smt. Gladney Monsang, DAO acted as Resource persons. The Resource persons talked about the potential for implementation of Agro-forestry models proposed under CMGMM in Chandel District. They also talked about the crop selection, tree species, etc. for specific sites. This will help in generating incomes multi-fold from the same piece of land.
