Imphal, Feb 11:

Government College teachers of the state continue sit-in-protest in their respective colleges as a part of Federation of Government College Teachers’ Associations, Manipur (FEGOCTA) demands for implementation of 7th UGC pay.
General Secretary of FEGOCTA, Dr. N. Somorendro Singh in a press statement said that the government College teachers will take 2 days mass casual leave as a part of the protest.
The FEGOCTA expresses displeasures towards the government attitude stating that the college teachers have a strong sense of discrimination and being cheated due to unhappy experiences over two years since December 2018.
“In addition to the non-fulfillment of three written assurances to FEGOCTA in 2019 by the Government, two non-implementable Cabinet decisions were taken upto February 2020 on UGC Policy. These were before the Covid-19 pandemic started in 2020. Even after six months of Cabinet approval on 6th August 2020, no Orders7 th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 are issued till today”, a statement by Somorendra said.
It added that the college teachers will longer accept injustice, false accusation, and denial of basic rights as government employees.
The statement also stand tough with their demand saying that the present agitations will continue until the Orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 are issued.
“Now the attempts to take Covid-19 as the excuses and impression of teachers having no concerns for the students have only caused intense hurt feelings and anger to every college teacher. Other states including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Nagaland long ago implemented 7th UGC Pay and that too with arrear for the period from 1.1.2016 to 31.3.2019. For the College teachers in Manipur, 7th UGC pay is to be given only from April, 2019 as per Cabinet approval. Other employees of Manipur government are already enjoying 7th pay. Why only the college teachers are asked to sacrifice? The Government college teachers are even deprived of complete salary for the last nine years. In such a situation blaming the college teachers have caused more frustration and anger. FEGOCTA is always opened for dialogues and for peaceful academic atmosphere in the colleges. 5th FEGOCTA agitation is compelled and adopted as the ultimate last resort due to the circumstances mentioned above”, the statement said.
