Imphal, Jan 14:

The Wide Angle Social Development Organisation, Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak and CRY Child Rights & You have launched a Free Chess Coaching programme today, especially for the underprivileged children of Imphal West and Kangpokpi district of the State.
S. Saratkumar Sharma – Former Chairperson, Manipur Commission of Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) flagged off the program as the Chief Guest of the function.
Montu Ahanthem Secretary -Wide Angle in his Key note address highlighted that the specially designed online coaching, is initiated in collaboration with the renowned India’s Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua for the first time in the region, aiming to train 25 children in two subsequent batches. The coach Tamal Chakrabarty will mentor the participating children during the coaching.
Montu Ahanthem, Secretary – Wide Angle stated that the rationales behind conducting of such an online Chess Coaching for children amid the COVID-19 pandemic, are to motivate and impart positive coping skills to the children, whose mental and emotional wellbeing have been largely distressed by the COVID related traumatic environment, that literally pushed them into a disrupted lifestyle risking various devastating drawbacks.
“We believe, engaging the children into such a mindful game will definitely enhance their mental capacity to remain “Focussed”, prevent them from brooding over “ Negative thoughts” unnecessarily. It will also helpful to protect them from inclining into other unhealthy outlets such as smartphone addiction, substance abuse, becoming the victims of cybercrime, child trafficking or falling into other harmful ways”, Montu said.
Trina Chakrabarti, The Regional Director – Eastern Region of CRY highlighted that all the children participating will be inspired on how to adopt the vital mental skills of chess; such as ability to remain focussed, sustaining a set of strong organised imaginations , skills to foresee multi-dimensional possibilities and consequences and to used such teachings techniques as the functional life skills so that they could achieve their set goals of life and become successful persons in future.
