Chandel, Jan 30: The Tengnoupal Village Authority has called an indefinite bandh along Imphal-Moreh section of National Highway 102 in protest against 24 Assam Rifles for prohibiting free movement of Tengnoupal villagers and its surrounding villages with effect for Thursday midnight. While informing media-persons, Lunminthang Haokip, Secretary of Tengnoupal Village Authority said that the Village Authority and villagers of TengnoupalTengnoupal will impose indefinite bandh along Imphal-Moreh section of NH-102. The indefinite bandh was called in protest against prohibiting free movement of local people after 6 pm by the 24 Assam Rifles posted at Tengnoupal. The decision was taken by the villagers after the Assam Rifles personnel prohibited villagers who were coming home from Pallel and Imphal to proceed further at Sita Lamkhai near Tengnoupal along the National Highway. Even the Village Authority members who went to request them for allowing the villagers to proceed were also abused by the Assam Rifles Personnel, said Haokip. While strongly condemning the action of the Assam Rifles, the village Secretary told that all right thinking individuals and organizations should condemn the action of the Assam Rifles for depriving the right of the villagers to move freely.
