Imphal, Nov. 28:

Students of Manipur University of Culture today staged a protest demonstration at Palace compound urging authority to stand with the decision of the Academic Council taken earlier.
The protest is being staged after there has been pressure from certain sector to allow admission of students who had completed diploma course at Government Music College and also JN Dance Akademi to allow them admission at MA at the MUC amidst UGC’s directives to complete the admission process.
The MUC Academic Council had earlier resolved to allow admission to students who possessed degree certificate as it is the criteria as per the guidelines of the UGC. JN Dance Akademi which have been running in Guru Kul system did not affiliates to any University so as the Government College of Music and Dance too have not been affiliated to any university to have Graduate level class.
Right at the moment the MUC has around 700 students and many eligible students have also applied for admission to MA course which is starting this year’s academic session. Among those students ensuing graduate course there are students who had already completed diploma course from the JN Dance Akademi as well as from the Manipur Government College of Dance and Music. Their argument is that if those without graduate certificate are allowed to admit in the MA then they too need not top undergo the graduate course as they could skip the graduate course to admit MA.
At present the MUC is under the Arts and Culture Department and it is in the process to become full autonomy, said a source from the MUC.
