Manipur Celebrates 66th Republic Day

As in other parts of the nation, Manipur celebrated the 66th Republic Day of India on Monday at Kangla with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh as chief guest.
In the saluting base celebration of the state held at Kangla, the Chief Minister unfurled India’s tricolor flag at 8.05 AM and received salutes from a total number of 95 contingents led by Lumjamung Assistant Commandant of 2nd IRB.
March past contingents from Ex-servicemen, CRPF, BSF, AR, IRB, Manipur Police, Home Guard, Manipur Jail, NCC, Manipur Fire Service and others took part in the march past. Besides, 11 music bands, 12 cultural troupes and for the first time a brash music band of 9th IRB’s Mahila (femala) band party also participated.
As part of the celebration, 4 personnel of Manipur police and IRB; 3 of Manipur Fire Service and Jail were given Police Medal for Gallantry; Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service and Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service were given by the Chief Minister.

Republic Day Celebration at Thoubal
The 66th Republic Day was celebrated at Basu Ground, Khangabok, Thoubal. Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal Shri T. Ranjit Singh unfurled the National Flag and received the salute of an impressive march past of 54 contingents commanded by Shri Hemanta Singh, MPS, SDPO, Yairipok. The parade contingents included cultural troupes, police, home guards, NCC boys and girls and students from various schools in the district.
While addressing the gathering, the DC highlighted the various activities and achievements made by the District Administration. Thoubal besides mentioning about various programmes to accelerate the social and economic development in the district. He also asked for stopping crimes and atrocities against children and women and appealed to work for bringing peaceful and harmonious atmosphere to make Thoubal one of the best districts in the state.
A cultural programme, meritorious awards distribution ceremony and display of Band party by 2nd Bn. Assam Rifles were also highlights of the celebration.
The celebration was successfully attended by large numbers of the public from the area including elected members of Zilla Parishad and Gram Panchayats and the officers and staff of various departments.

Republic Day Celebrated at Senapati
Amidst great jubilation, Senapati District celebrated the 66th Republic Day yesterday. The main function was held at the Mini Stadium Ground, Senapati with Deputy Commissioner, Jacintha Lazarus, IAS as Chief Guest.
A contingent led by Shri P.S Daiho, SDPO, Mao gave Guard of Honour to the Deputy Commissioner on her arrival at the Mini Stadium Ground.
Jacintha Lazarus inspected the Guard of honour before she unfurled the National tricolour flag marking the beginning of the observation amidst playing of the National Anthem by a band party of 35th Assam Rifles, Maram. Later, the Chief Guest received salute of 35 different March Past contigents.
Contingent of Manipur Police, Ex-serviceman, Scouts, School and College students and cultural troupes took part in the march past. 12 stalls of different department were opened exhibiting their products.
As part of the programme a football match between NPO 11 team and DC 11 team was organised by the sports Department.
