Imphal, Nov 21:

MP Dr. RK Ranjan of Manipur today expressed his strong commitment to extend all possible help to Manipuris living in Brak Valley of Assam from his side today. He assured to provide all possible support to improve the socio- economy and political issued being faced by the Manipuris living in Assam.
The Manipur’s MP from the inner parliamentary constituency said this while talking at a one day discussion programme on the various issues living in Assam held today at Ghandhi Bhawan at Park road Silchar.
Among others, Manipuri language issue is the priority issue of the Manipuri people living in Assam. Dr. RK Ranjan said that he had been trying all his support to the issue in favour of the Manipuris living in Assam but he was sometime helpless as there are certain loopholes in putting his argument in connection with the language issue.
“Showing love and doing nothing to improve the language is not clear indication of the love of their mother language”, Ranjan said adding that the Manipuris in Assam should first retrospect on what went wrong to the Manipuris which has been living in the Barak Valley in promoting the language even after so many years.
Earlier the All Assam Manipuri Students Union (AAMSU) had submitted a memorandum to the MP who has been at Silchar since the day before. Among other the AAMSU details the grievances over the negligence to the matter of Manipuri language by the Assam Government.
This language issue is a priority issue as it directly concern to job and employment opportunities of Manipuri students of Barak Valley as such.
The memorandum urged the MP to convince the Assam Government for inclusion of Manipuri language along with Assamese, Bengali, and Bodo in all written examinations, conducted by different Departments of Government of Assam, including the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) conducted by APSC.
Dr. Ranjan said he had already put up the issue and had discussed with the Assam Government but due to disunity and lack of commitment among the Manipuris to promote it he sometimes had no answer to give when the Assam government responded in a logical way.
What we need is introspection of what went wrong. The Manipuris have been in the Barak Valley for quite a long time and it was legitimate settlement.
The MP appealed the gathering to show more concern and seriousness to preserve not only language but also the culture and tradition of the Manipuri people.
