Imphal, July 10:

Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) continuing its sustained efforts on ‘Go Green ‘ initiative organised Tree Plantation Drive jointly with the District Forest Officials by planting saplings of fruit bearing and ornamental trees.
The tree plantation drive was started with an aim of contributing to the Go Green Drive of our country, fighting against global warming and thereby reducing its impact on climate change and ultimately presenting a better environment for the next generation. A total of 1000 saplings were planted at Chassad and 400 saplings at Somsai consisting of locally available flora which includes teak, pine, mulberry and gooseberry. Mr Shangam, DFO Ukhrul district and forest officials were present at Somsai for the plantation event.
All the attendees pledged to carry forward the initiative and contribute actively towards increasing the green cover in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts of Manipur which are still one of the most pristine natural habitats.
The endeavour of the Assam Rifles is to contribute as much as possible in the ‘Go Green’ initiative of Government of India and Assam Rifles will continue to organise such activities to contribute in maintaining ecological balance and conserving the environment.
