Imphal, July 8:

Amidst the lockdown called to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, people from all wakes of lives today paid fitting tribute to the memorials of Sapam Robinhood on his 5th Death Anniversary observance at Lamjing Mera Ching formerly known as Awa Ching at Nongmaiching in the Imphal East District of Manipur. The number of people attended today is comparably less due to the ongoing lockdown but the observance is significant as it reminds the sacrifice of Robinhood to protect the indigenous people of the region.

“We have no reason to be happy about the introduction of the Inner Line permit System under the Eastern Bengal frontier regulation, it is a toothless regulation that have no proper provision to protect the indigenous people”, YK Dhiren Convenor of the JCILPS said talking to reporters at the sideline of the observance.

He further added that the base year demanded has not been heard and the definition of who are the indigenous people has not been properly mentioned in the regulation.

Dhiren further cautioned the government of India for playing divide and rule among the communities of the reason by implanting various plots. He said the JCILPS vehemently opposed the delimitation based on the 2001 census data and this is also being played as a tool to divide the hill and plain people.

Sapam Robinhood a student of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School, died after he was hit by bullet fired by security force while demonstrating a protest demanding implementation of inner line Permit system in the state Manipur on this day of 2015 .
