Farmers’ body urges CM to relax lockdown for cultivators

Manipur Progressive Farmers Association (AMPFA) has urged the Chief Minister of Manipur to initiate measures for purchase and procurement of the products from the farmer of the state by formulating arrangement for concern authority to collect the product from the cultivation spot.
A memorandum drawing the attention of the Chief Minister in connection with the problem being face has been submitted today by the Manipur Progressive Farmers Association (AMPFA).
The memorandum urged the government to allow farmers to continue their work in the field, by relaxing certain guidelines which is being enforced to fight the spread of COVID-19.
The memorandum highlighted the problems being face by the farmers not only after the lockdown after the outbreak of COVID-19 but also the problems that they had faced due to scarcity of rainfalls. . After the outbreak of Covid-19 and the consequent lockdown in the State, the people of Manipur, particularly the poor farmers who has been the producer class of the State faces a multi-dimensional issues and problems.
The memorandum stated that the farmers have been prevented to come out of their home to work at the field due to lockdown. The meager supply of rice by the government and other supplies from the individuals, voluntary groups (majority of the farmers could not receive sufficiently the benefits) could not meet the requirement for survival.
On the other hand, non-plying of public / private transport has all the more gave a huge burden to the farmers and the people of the State at large, however the organization support the Lockdown saying that saving of life from the Covid-19 pandemic is more important.
The memorandum urged the Chief Minister to make available High Yielding Variety (HYV) seeds, Necessary fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, etc.. It also urged to provide Irrigation facilities be renovated and water be made available to the field using lift irrigation system and other favourable means.
The organization urged to provide all necessary items to farmer to continue the cultivations.
