North-East  Forum  for  International  Solidarity  (NEFIS) NEFIS expressed strong condemnation to the incident of racist attacks on the North-east people at various part of the mainland Indian states.
“ It should be noted that many incidents have happened in the last few days in  which  people  from  North-east have been called ‘Corona’ and have been span upon”, a statement of the Forum said.
It added that  NEFIS  had  earlier  written  to  the  Union  Home  Ministry  regarding  the  racist attacks  being  faced  by  the  North-east  people  during  the  lockdown.  Despite  the caution,  such  attacks  are  continuing  across  the  country.  Such  incidents  are unfortunate  and  highlight  the  widespread  bias  against  North-east  people,  and  as such should be strictly dealt with.
On the other hand the Forum appealed  to  the  Manipur Chief Minister  to  increase  the  amount  being  given  to  stranded  workers  in  various  cities across  the  country.  The  NEFIS  had  yesterday  written  to  the Manipur  CM  regarding  the  plight  of  the  workers  stranded  in  Bangalore  and  other cities during the lockdown. These workers with their respective families do not have the  means  to  buy  subsistence  and  as  such  are  in  a  very  pathetic  condition.  The workers are not receiving any wages in the lockdown and have little savings left to last them during the lockdown.
Meanwhile, the NEFIS called on for donations from civil society to help organize relief for the stranded people of Manipur and North-East during this time of crisis. The funds so collected  would  be  used  to  distribute  food  and  other  essential  items  tomorrow  to stranded workers in Bangalore and other cities across the country.
