Deputy Chief Minister inaugurates innovation hub and toy train

Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh today inaugurated Innovation Hub and Toy Train at Manipur Science Centre at Takyelpat in Imphal. The Innovation Hub which aims to engage youth in creative hobbies and activities in science and technology and also to promote their critical thinking and practical problem-solving skills has been constructed under the funding of National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), NE Zone, Kolkata, Ministry of Culture. It consists of Biology, Chemistry, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics Labs, Resource Centre, Design Studio and a Hall of Fame. The Toy Train which consists of three bogies with a capacity of 30 seats have been provided by the Ministry of Railways free of cost.
After the inauguration, speaking to media persons Deputy Chief Minister said, the Innovation Hub will help people especially the students to conduct scientific experiments wherein innovative ideas and scientific temperaments can be translated into action. He said, the Hub will help to inspire people especially students to make innovations, ultimately spreading a culture of innovation in the State and the country as a whole.
Director, Science & Technology E. Ibocha Singh while delivering the key note address said, seeing the importance of innovations, National Council of Science Museums is developing a chain of Idea Labs where young innovators get the platform and resources to pursue the passion to create through science and technology innovation leading to the installation of Innovation Hubs in several states of the country. He said, Manipur Science Centre has launched ‘Innovation Hub’ to provide facilities to the students or any individual to help them unlocking their innovative ideas thereby promoting creativity and inspire students to make innovations.
Citing some of the objectives of launching such facilities in the State, he said, the idea of opening such facility includes to support innovative ideas and build them to come to fruition, to recognize, encourage and facilitate local innovations in Science & Technology and to help the society and economy to face future challenges in science & technology.
Commissioner (S&T) Bobby Waikhom, Director NE Zone, NSCM, Kolkata Subhashis Das and Rajesh Awasthi, Chief Workshop Manager, N.E. Railways, Izatnagar, U.P, Scientists, Innovators and students participated among others in the inaugural ceremony.
