Delhi on the boil over CAA, High alert in Mumbai I & B Ministry asks TV channels, not to broadcast content that promote ‘anti-national’ attitude.

While Delhi continues to be tense over ongoing anti-CAA agitations, Mumbai police have sounded a high alert and banned agitations in the city, except at the court approved site at Azad Maidan in South Mumbai.
On Tuesday police registered cases against 30 to 35 protestors who staged a sit in dharna late  Monday night at Marine Drive in South Mumbai, in support of Delhi anti-CAA protestors. In fact the protestors wanted to hold agitations at the Gateway of India in South Mumbai, but the police prevented them from holding agitation. Eventually they moved to Marine Drive, popularly known as Queen’s Necklace.
Maharashtra Home Ministry officials said that an alert has been sounded in Mumbai after violence in Delhi. The police are taking precautionary measures to maintain law and order in the state. Other than the designated area in Azad Maidan, no permission will be granted for any other protest in Mumbai, the official added. Maharashtra Minorities Minister Nawab Malik said that the Central Government is responsible for the anti-CAA agitations and its aftermath.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court agreed to hear an application, filed by former Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah and others, seeking direction to the police to lodge FIRs on the complaints regarding the ongoing violence in Delhi over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The application will come up for hearing before a bench of Justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph, on Wednesday.
In another development, IPS SN Shrivastava was appointed as Special Commissioner (Law and Order) in Delhi Police, with immediate effect, by the Central Government. A notification regarding this was issued by the Directorate General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
While nearly 13 persons were stated to be killed and over 140 including 48 policemen and 98 civilians, were injured, in stone pelting and firing, one Shahrukh, who allegedly opened fire at police during violence in northeast Delhi was taken into custody. Besides Delhi police registered FIRs against 11 protestors.
Delhi Metropolitan Railway Corporation (DMRC) temporary closed down metro stations at Jaffrabad, Maujpur-Babarpur, Gokulpuri, Johri Enclave and Shiv Vihar and terminated trains at Welcome Metro station. The CBSE postponed Class 10, 12 exams in northeast Delhi which were scheduled  to be held on Wednesday. However, exams in the remaining areas of the National Capital will be held as per schedule.
The police imposed a curfew in Maujpur, Jafrabad, Kabir Nagar, Chand Bagh, Karawal Nagar, Gokulpri, Yamuna Vihar, Kardam Puri, Ghonda, Brahamouri areas of North East Delhi. In addition to local police, 35 companies of paramilitary forces were deployed. The police staged a flag march in Khajurikhas area on Tuesday.
Since the protestors blocked the road, the injured were being brought to hospitals on bikes and vans, Harjit Singh Bhatti, ex-president of the Resident Doctor’s Association, AIIMS said and condemned the attitude of the protestors.
Similarly the high alert was sounded and section 144 of the CrPC, banning assembly of four or more people, was imposed in NOIDA (outskirts of Delhi). The Police Armed Constabulary (PAC) was deployed in large number. Liquor shops near Delhi border areas were closed down and the patrolling and security was increased along the Ghaziabad and NOIDA borders by the Uttar Pradesh Police.
The Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry issued an advisory to TV channels, urging them not to broadcast content that promotes ‘anti-national’ attitude.
In the meanwhile the tributes were paid the slain Head Constable Ratan Lal, who was succumbed to bullet injuries during riots, by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Lt Governor Anil Baijal, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and others at New Police Lines, Kingsway Camp, New Delhi.
A native of Sikar in Rajasthan, Ratan Lal has left behind a wife -Poonam and children – Siddhi (13), Kanak (10) and Ram (8)- remain inconsolable.  His body will be taken to his native village – Fathepur Tihwali in Rajasthan’s Sikar district – where cremation is scheduled for Wednesday. Residents of the village, have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for a government job for a family member and pension for his elderly parents.
