State Celebrates 71st Republic Day Of India

Manipur joined the rest of the country in celebrating the 71st Republic Day of India yesterday. The colourful State level function was held at the historic Kangla Fort with Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla as the Chief Guest.
The celebration began with the Governor unfurling the National flag and inspecting the guard of honour. She then took salute from 118 different march past contingents including uniformed services, schools, colleges and bands platoons, 17 cultural troupes and 16 tableaux of different Government Departments.
On the occasion the Governor handed out President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service to Jemadar Md. Ghiyasuddin of 7th IRB. On the other hand, Police Medal for Meritorious Service was given to Dy. CO of 1st MR Suresh Thapa, Shri S. Sarat Chandra Singh of 3rd IRB, ASI of MPTO Devishore, Head Constable K. Brojen Singh of Imphal West District, Head Constable Khualthianthang Vaiphei of Churachandpur District and Havildar Bhomen Sharma of 7th IRB.
The Governor also handed over Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Police Training to Subedar Kh. Naba Singh, Havildar Y. Guneshore Singh and Havindar D. Mathew Maring and Rifleman Y. Sundar Singh of Manipur Police Training College.
While delivering the vote of thanks at 1st Bn. M.R. ground, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stressed that the Government is striving towards inclusive and all round development for all for both hills and valley with a sense of unity, peace and harmony. He expressed that the participation of all communities in the Republic day parade signifies the revival of the close bond between people of different communities residing in the state. The main objective of the BJP-led coalition government in the state is to ensure equal opportunities and participation for all, he said. It is under this objective that the State Government have initiated Go to Hills and Go to Village, he asserted. CM further stated that such programmes of the government is reaching out to every nook and corner of Manipur including the remotest part which have been unreached so far.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Cabinet Ministers, MPs, MLAs, top civil, police and military officers, Government employees and general public also took part in the celebration.
