MTU gets its first centre of excellence – The Cyber Centre of Excellence

The Manipur Technical University (MTU) bagged its first Centre of Excellence as a result of the joint effort initiated by the MTU Core Administration Team and the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University and the Cyber Peace Foundation was signed on November 23, 2019 at the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Manipur Technical University, Takyel, Imphal.
According to a press release issued by Ng. Bhogendra Meitei, Registrar, MTU, the main aim of setting up of the MTU Cyber CoE is to address and solve the challenged and problems in the cyber space, thereby making it more stable and safe for everyone. The MTU Cyber CoE will work, share and collaborate with the other Cyber CoEs in India. The MTU Cyber CoE shares its vision with the Cyber Peace Foundation, which is to create a bed of research in Manipur Technical University comprising of participation from academia, industry, government and civil society organizations to nurture and support ideas and solutions and develop innovations in cyber space through research.
The collaboration between MTU and CPF will open the windows of opportunities for the students of the university besides accelerating the R&D activities. The students will receive state of art level training and internships related to cyber security, and most importantly the students have a high chance of receiving lucrative placements in the industries related to cyber security and cyber crime, according to the students’ interest.
The MTU Cyber CoE intends to open a cyber forensic laboratory at its campus in the near future which will serve as a backbone to solve cyber crime related investigations at a minimal time frame thus benefitting the law enforcers of the State. The centre will also provide specific training programs for the state police force related to new technologies and tools regarding cyber crime. The laboratory will start its research in the areas of detecting misinformation and also fake news.
The University also expressed gratitude to Major Hijam Somorjit, faculties and staffs of the University for their vital role in setting up the Cyber CoE. The MoU was signed by Prof. (Dr.) L. Tombi Sing, Voice Chancellor, MTU and Captain Vineet Kumar, President Cyber Peace Foundation in presence of Ng. Bhogendra Meitei, Registrar, MTU, Chiranjiv Chingangbam, HOD, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, MTU, Prof. Kazi, Dean of Research, VJTI, Mumbai and Pavithran Rajan, Advisor, CPF.
