2 Manipuris to participate in global peace march to Geneva

Haobijam Surjit and Karam Tania from Manipur will be participating in a one year global peace march starting from New Delhi to Geneva.

With the objective to campaign for peace and justice the Global March called Jai Jagat 2020 covering a distance of 14,000 km will begin from October 2, 2019.

Speaking to media persons in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club Jai Jagat 2020 Coordination Committee Convener Rishikanta Aribam stressed that around 50 people from India will be participating the global March out of which the two Manipuri was selected from the North East.

The marchers from around the world will meet at Geneva on September 26, 2020 and a weeklong convention will be done till October 2, 2020, he added

Pointing out the main objective of the campaign he stressed that Jai Jagat 2020 will focus on the advocacy of four pillars related to the Sustainable Development Goals which are eradication of poverty, social inclusion, climate justice and the non violent resolutions of conflicts.

He also said that 10 more participants from Manipur will be joining the weeklong convention.

As a solidarity to the said campaign advocacy meeting, training and tree plantation programs will also be done in the state, Rishikanta added.

Highlighting the schedule of the March participants of Jai Jagat 2020, Haobijam Surjit said that they will start the campaign from New Delhi on Oct 2, 2019 campaigning in India for 121 days. Then they will march passing through Iran, Armenia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Italy and finally Switzerland advocating for peace and justice campaign, he added.

Surjit also said that they will be traveling the places by means of foot and bus.

He said that he will address the conflict issue of the state more importantly in the convention.
