Minister Nemcha Kipgen calls on Union Mos Parshottam Rupala

Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister. Nemcha Kipgen today called on Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Parshottam Rupala at his office at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi.

During the meeting, Minister Nemcha Kipgen apprised on the various projects of the Cooperation Department mainly Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP) which is funded under National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC). She apprised  that the Department of Cooperation, Government of Manipur, have so far submitted Detail Project Report (DPR) for 6 (six) districts of Manipur i.e. Imphal East, Imphal West, Kangpokpi, Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Jiribam to the NCDC for an amount of Rs. 163.2225 crores.

Minister Shri Rupala assured that the project is under process and the funds will be released at the earliest as development through cooperative movement is the need of the hour to take the country towards progressive and inclusive growth. He also lauded the state Cooperation Department and the Minister for highlighting the concern of the state and her departments to the knowledge of the Union Ministry; which has helped in bridging the gap between the Central government and the people of Manipur.

On the other hand, Nemcha Kipgen expressed her optimism that the state will accelerate faster towards development if cooperative movement is successfully implemented throughout the state. She expressed deep gratitude to the concern Ministry at the centre for always putting forward the concerns and grievances of the people of Manipur in their dealings.

It may be mentioned that ICDP Scheme was introduced in the year 1985-86 and aims at development of primary agricultural credit societies as multi-purpose self-reliant entities, development of allied sector cooperatives and development of viable functional linkages among cooperatives. Under the scheme, an integrated area-based approach is adopted for development of cooperatives in a selected district. The Scheme promotes various economic activities through cooperatives in the sphere of agriculture, agro-based industries, cottage and household industries and agro-allied sector like fishery, dairy, handloom, horticulture, rural industries in a selected district.
