A two days National Convention in defence of Democratic Rights was held today at Malvioya Smriti Bhawan, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, New Delhi.
Speaking on the convention regarding the impunity given by Black Laws, Human Right activist Ravi Nair said that the people of the land should stand firmly against the black laws and the impunity given by it. He added that they not only need to remove AFSPA but also need to focus on and stand against the impunity section given by it which is Section 4 and 5.
Several other speakers also focused on the present government and its tactics to systematically violate the right to dissent by the provision of UAPA where any individuals can be declared as terrorist.
During the third session which is on ‘Redefining Citizenship to create the other’ Senior Lawyer Prasant Bushan condemned the NRC where he said that the process of NRC has left 1.9 million people as stateless. He added that such act is against the international law.
Denying that the National Foreigner Tribunal can’t take appropriate actions Prasant said that the people that were not included in the NRC can further appeal to the National Foreigner Tribunal which will not bring solution.
Journalist Sanjoy Hajariza stressed that illegal migration is a big problem in North East and added that movement of protecting indigenous people still prevails in the region.
He concluded that the process of NRC should not bring any problems to the Indians.
