73 rd Independence Day celebrated at Churachandpur

Churachandpur district joined the rest of the country in celebrating the momentous 73rd Independence Day with great pomp and ceremonial splendor here at Lamka Public Ground, Churachandpur today. HangkhanlianValte, Hon’ble Minister (Agri, Vety & AH) hoisted the National Tri-colour and took salute of the marching contingents from 67 Parade Contingents led by Shivanand Surve, IPS, SDPO/Churachandpur comprising of Civil Police, BSF, Ex-Servicemen, VDF, cadets of different NCC units and school children at Lamka Public Ground, Churachandpur.

Presentation of colourful cultural items by different troupes; presentation of awards to outstanding social workers, Govt employees and march past contingents marked the occasion.

Addressing the gatherings, Hangkhanlian Valte, Hon’ble Minister (Agri, Vety& AH) said “During these 72 years of India Independence there are many changes, India had been under the subjugation of the British for more than 200 years. We remember today Mahatma Gandhi-the father of the nation, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Sardar Valabhai Patel to mention a few who are instrumental in India Independence, after a unique freedom struggle which gave the world the philosophy of non-violence. India today is one of the most powerful countries in the world. Our leaders have been working hard to push the nation forward, now we can upkeep the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India.

Highlighting the scheme taken up during the last one year, Hangkhanlian pointed out that under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, at present 61,948 farmers has been registered under this scheme and about 36,363 small & marginal farmers had been benefitted under the scheme. The Minister stress that in Manipur, there are two such land holding system in the state namely revenue land and unsurvey hill land and that for identification of the unsurvey hill land, he requested the Govt. of India to accept the certification made by the village chief, the SDO concerned and the DC of the District for successful implementation of the scheme. He assures that under the crop insurance scheme 2019-20, 2144 numbers of farmers has been registered and for transforming jhum cultivation in the hill areas of Manipur, a project proposal had been submitted to the Govt. of India at a cost of Rs. 515 crores for cultivation of maize and soyabeans. 

In the Health Sector, the first pulmonary care facility unit has been set up in the district hospital of Churachandpur and Health & Wellness Center were made functional for the hilly and rural areas of Manipur, stated the Minister. The Minister lauded the Churachandpur District Hospital for bagging the Prestigious Health Kayakalp Awardand also the District Administration in planning to organize the only Women Badminton Tournament under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP).

On the Education Sector, under the initiative of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Biren Singh ‘School FagatHansi’, all the government schools in 60 ACs of the state will be developed as model schools and interestingly, Churachandpur Govt. College will be commencing B.Ed classes from next session, conveys the Minister. At present, for improvement of drinking water for Churachandpur town from Khuga dam a sum of Rs. 22 Crores is being earmarked which will hopefully cover80 percent, asserted the Minister. Emphasizing on road connectivity, the Minister ensures that 70 percent black-topping of Churachandpur town-roads and culvert will be completed within this current year and reconstruction of Tipaimukh road from Police Station to telsing bazar will be taken up shortly by the concerned agencies.

The Minister on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day appeals to the authorities, MTDC and the agencies concerned to complete the improvement of Lamka Public Ground which is being finance by NEC, Shillong in public Interest.

The Minister requested the public to extend full co-operation, unite and work sincerely towards the common goal of growth and prosperity.

Stalls were also opened by different departments.

Dignitaries attending the event included Chairman of ADC, Churachandpur T Paukhanlian; Members from ADC; SP (Churachandpur) Amrita Sinha; DLOs, Army Officials, BSF Officials, Chiefs and Social Activists attended the grand Independence Day Celebration yesterday.
