Former Member of Parliament Dr. T. Meinya today gave a critical outlook to the present democracy in India saying that the adoption of Democracy in India is not timely.

Speaking at the launching function of Korou Sanitary Pads by M/S SO Enterprise, Moidangpok at Manipur Press Club, Dr. Thokchom Meinya said that the real taste of democracy will only be felt after citizens are fully empowered.

“Democracy will only be successful after the citizens are fully empowered”, the former MP said and added that everyone knows how election are conducted in the country. The way the Panchayat members, Municipal Councilors, MLAs, MPs are elected is known to everyone, he said.

“Taking advantage to the ignorance of the citizens certain people are using all form of machineries including money and muscle powers to get elected in the election to run democratic form of government”, Meinya said.

The former MP gave not only his critical outlook to the present democratic form of government but also suggested how to make democracy meaningful. He said education is the only means to empower the citizens.

“Democracy will be successful only after empowering the citizens and for empowering them giving right and proper education is the only means”, Meinya said.

Former Chairperson of the Manipur State Women Commission, Dr. Ch. Jamini, who presided the launching function of the Sanitary Pad applauded the effort of the M/S SO Enterprise saying that such an effort is to empower the women. Women always experience certain difficulties in their cycle of life and the new product will help women in fighting the difficulties by using the new product.

Dr. Ch. Sheelaramni , Principal, D.M. College of Arts, Imphal Dhanamanjuri University, A Robita, Secretary , Women Against Crime and Yengkhom Ojit , Proprietor of  M/S SO Enterprise also attended as dignitaries of the launching function.
