In order to put check on destruction of paddy fields and wetlands for industrial and construction works, SDO, Wangoi Y. Nelson had issued a warning to immediately stop construction works in paddy fields and wetlands that are violating the Manipur Conservation of paddy lands and Wetlands Act,2014.According to the SDO, there have been reports of alleged violation of the said act from the four revenue circles in his jurisdiction .As such ,stringent warnings and notices were issued as per government instructions on taking action against the violation of the said act to all the alleged violators of the said act.
Nelson intimated that in mid – June, he had already issued notice to all the violators of the said act including construction at Shamurou Awang Leikai Loukol with the Warning to face eviction if the construction works are not halted immediately.
Earlier, Imphal Times had reported that SDO did not listen to the complaints of the local regarding a construction at Shamurou Loukol yesterday. However, as per the order issued by SDO, it is now confirmed that the SDO did listen to the people of the area.
On the other hand Y. Nelson, SDO Wangoi clarified that he was not absent on the day when Imphal Times reporter went to meet him. However he went to district head quarter for computerization of land record.
