(o) Radhe – President, CADA Imphal West District presided the meeting. Geetchandra Mangang – Secretary General, CADA attended the program as the resource person. Geetchandra Mangang said that substance abusers, particularly heroin, were earlier mainly those who belong to the rich families. However, we see another trend these days. Use of narcotic has spread in both youths of Imphal mayol and outskirts; both in rich and poor families and drug abuse is constantly increasing in youths who will be the pillars of the society.
Earlier only men used to drink alcohol, these days’ women are also drinking alcohol and lots of unwanted incidents are happening due to these issues, Geetchandra Mangang added. The impact of narcotics is not just limited to people who consume it but also to entire society directly and indirectly. Presidium Member Oinam Chaoba who is also the President, Senior Club, Kodompokpi said the ban of alcohol will be more fruitful if the ban is not limited to those who drink and sell also imposed on those who are manufacturing alcohol. Furthermore, the government should honestly make efforts to curb the menace of drugs and alcohol in this society.  Hijam Priyokumar said that if the government can curb the activities of the insurgents, they can definitely combat this matter. Everyone knows that at some places heroin no. 4 is manufactured but no government agencies has done anything on this matter. Other presidium members added the need to fight the menace of drugs and alcohol for a better society and honest participation of the government in this endeavour. They also sought the participation of people in this campaign done for the society.
