Students demand unconditional apology from govt; threatens disruption in Sangai festival

Students’ Wing of the JCILP today demanded unconditional apology from the government for destruction of the DESAM office infrastructures and assaulting of students inside the office of the student wing at Keishampat yesterday. In a press conference held today at the office of the AMSU, Convenor of the Student Wing Moiranthem Angamba said that the students’ Wing will intensify the agitation from tomorrow and sabotage the Sangai festival if the government failed to apologies the  students’ body within 24 hours. The students’ body later burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Ibobi , Dy. CM Gaikhangam and DGP.
Earlier, hundreds of students today staged a protest rally at Imphal East demanding implementation of the ILP in the state. The rally began from Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School  and proceeded towards Nongmeibung. The students were stopped by a team of Police at Nongmeibung Nambram Chuthek. The police then fired several rounds of tear gas shell to disperse the students. Report said some students sustained injury in the police action.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh called on the Members of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System today and discussed about the prevailing situation arises out the agitation by the students’ wing of the JCILP in the eve of the Sangai Festival today noon. Details of the meeting could not be confirmed.
