Main accused of the Lungnila Elizabeth murder case, who had been lodged in Sajiwa Central Jail here in Imphal for over 16 years as Under Trial Prisoner (UTP) escaped from JNIMS Hospital Ortho ward while in Judicial Custody at wee hour today.

Police announced a cash reward of Rs. One Lakh to any individual who can provide information about the whereabouts of the escaped prisoner.

Thokchom Nando Singh @ Nanao (34 yrs) son of Th. Subol Singh of Khangabok Part –III was first arrested in 2003 and booked under FIR No 272 (10) 2003 IPS u/s 365/34 IPC by Imphal police station and under FIR No 150 (12) 2003 City PS u/s 10/13 UA (P) Act and 25 (1-A) Arms Act by City Police station and remanded to judicial custody on 20 December 2003 in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 8 years old minor girl from her school  gate (Little Flower School) on November 4, 2003.

Tears still wets the eyes of thousands after the dead body (decomposed) of the 8 years old  baby Lungnila Elizabeth, daughter of then Minister Francis Ngajokpa was found in a sack at Tera Sadokpam, Imphal West, on November 12.

Source with the Imphal Times said that Th. Nando had been in the Ortho Ward for treatment of his Spinal cord related illness since November 26, 2018. . On February 8, 2019, he reportedly underwent surgery for the injury. His father Th. Subol Singh was allowed to stay with him for taking care but some few days before Yaoshang festival, 10 number of extortion notes and two mobile phones along with Sim cards were recovered from his possession while he was undergoing treatment inside the ortho ward. The source also added that the extortion notes were recovered after police search his bed after receiving complaint about extortion threat by a businessman from Imphal. Following that Th. Subol too has been arrested as he happened to be the only transporter for his son. Subol is in prison.

Top police brass, including the DGP of Manipur L M Khaute, rushed to the hospital and inspected the ward where Nando was lodged. While the DGP declined to give any comments on the incident, police have registered a case.

Nando’s escaped is a threat to many people who had raised voice against him. He is known as one of the most dangerous gangster as he is reported to have excess for committing anti social crime while staying inside Sajiwa Prison for 16 years. 

In June 2009, while in prison, Nando was arrested by police in connection with the killing of contractor Krishnadas after being abducted for ransom.

In 2010 July also, he was interrogated by police with regard to a string of extortion incidents.

In 2012, blasted a grenade at the residence of AMWJU President A Mobi.

The latest being the extortion threat to a high profile businessman.
