The 70thRepublic Day was celebrated in all its solemnity and grandeur at Public Ground, Hiangtam Lamka, Churachandpur today with Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur Shri Shyam Lal Poonia hoisting the National Tri-Colour and taking salute of the marching contingents comprising of BSF, Ex-Servicemen, Civil Police, VDF, IRB Band Party, Cadets of different NCC units and School children.
Presentation of colourful cultural items by different troupes, soulful rendering of ‘Vande Mataram’ by artistes, presentation of Special Recognition Awards to outstanding social workers, Govt. employees, Red Blankets to Village Chiefs, March Past Contingents and a Friendly Football match between DC XI Team and SP XI Team marked the occasion.
Addressing the gatherings, DC/Churachandpur Shri Shyam Lal Poonia said that the District Administration is trying its best to deliver good governance, which is transparent and accountable to the public of the district.  
In line with this, the DC said that conflict resolution is the shared responsibility of the District Administration and it is committed to sort out issues, smaller or bigger through dialogue and within the purview of the Indian Constitution.
Highlighting the achievements of the district during the last one year,Poonia said Churachandpur has been selected for implementation of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Abhiyan, which is Save the Girl Child and educate the girl child.  Towards this end, various initiative has been successful taken and FOOTGAL 2018 was one such event which created mass awareness about the cause of Girl Child and at the same time, provided much needed platform to young girls coming from different backgrounds, asserted the Deputy Commissioner.  
He remarked, to get real time first-hand information on gender wise child birth, Guddi -Gudda (Girl & Boy) Boards are being set up at all Anganwadi Centres of the district under seven ICDS Projects. The DC said, a beautiful BBBP anthem has been developed with inspiring video and the same was released on National Girl Child Day 2019. Around 70 mothers who have completed 100 percent immunization for the girl child were felicitated and also 50 mothers who have given birth to girl child through institutional delivery were also honoured. He added, under people initiative for girl’s education, Churachandpur scholarships worth Rs. 2.5 Lakh were distributed to 23 girls belonging to economically poor section. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to all to contribute towards this noble cause so that education of the needy girls can be supported.
Under Seekho Aur Kamao initiative of Ministry of Minority Affairs, Govt. of India around 120 girls and boys of the district are undergoing one year training course in aviation and hospitality in Guwahati, said the DC.  The District Administration has plans for setting up a youth Centre dedicated to girl child right next to Lamka Public Ground wherein a first football arena in the district will be ready in next few months which the Deputy Commissioner is confident that the initiative will help in supporting the cause of girl child. He appealed to all to unite in the BBBP mission which gives equal rights and opportunities to girl child for an inclusive Churachandpur, which is full of potential and free from any discrimination.
All the 603 villages of the district have been covered under “GTV or Go to Village Mission” with doorstep delivery of various services, said the DC while also lauding the District Health officials and to the entire team of the district hospital for bagging the prestigious Kayakalp Award.
He further said, as this is the Election year, the State and District Election machineries are all geared up and ever committed to ensure Free and Fair Election with No Voter to be left behind. The Deputy Commissioner congratulated the District Election team who devoted timelessly to purify Electoral Rolls and it was a result of the hard work of District Election Team that the Best District Election Officer Award has been received on the occasion of National Voters Day. He appealed to all the voters of the district to cast their valuable votes in ethical manner to strengthen the democracy.
Poonia also called upon the people of the district to reiterate their solemn pledge to work with dedication untiringly, with harmony and coordination, for making the district a better place to live in.
Amongst other dignitaries attending the event included Chairman of ADC, Churachandpur Shri T Paukhanlian; Vice-Chairman of ADC, Shri Paolal Haokip; other Members of ADC; Sr. SP (Churachandpur) Shri Kabib K; DLOs, Army Officials, BSF Officials, Chiefs and Social Activists.
Special issue of ‘Churachandpur Reporter’ published by the District Information Office was released to commemorate the occasion.
