Citizenship Amendment Bill: Protestors clash with police at Khwairamband Keithel; Cry against CAB fill the air; May demand a separate country – Student leader

Khwairamband Keithel today was turn to a war field after large number of protestors against the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill tried to storm at Raj Bhavan.

Around noon large number of women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel and students today came from nowhere and gathered at Khwairamband Keithel surprising the police force. The students taking the front row under the initiative of All Manipur Students Union, Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur, Students Union of Kangleipak Manipuri Students’ Federation , AIMS and Kangleipak Students Association and some of the Ima lup (women body) marched a protest rally at Khwairambandh Keithel at around 2.30 pm. The protestors confronted the police force near Raj Bhavan. Later the police resorted lathi charge and also fire several tear gas shell and the protestors to reportedly threw plastic bottle at which a police officer sustain injury after being hit by a bottle containing water.

The protestors were later drive out till BT road using excessive force. The police action fails to keep the protestors under full control at BT road as another rally against the CAB was also set out from the CPI office under the aegis of the Left Coordination Committee.

The Left Coordination Committee Comprises of CPI, CPI(M), Manipur Forward Front etc.

Speaking to media persons Manjit Sarangthem President of AMSU said that the Citizen Amendment bill 2016 is a policy to oppress the people of North East by the mainlanders and will surely wipe out the indigenous people of North East states.

He condemned that even when the leaders of state implementing ILPS system like Nagaland and Mizoram have the guts to strongly condemn and stand against the bill, the leaders of our state stills act as a puppet and look towards the central government for their decisions. And he added that it is not the time to take political mileage by the political parties by throwing words to each other but to stand for the people and to act against the bill for the sake of the welfare of the indigenous people

He added that the people were still saddened because of the forceful annexation of Manipur and adding fuel to the burning fire the people of North Eastern states witness racial discrimination and other forms of oppression in mainland India. And also the BJP led government tries to saffronize with its Hindutva policy to the people of North East.

He further added that the people of Manipur and the students will stand firmly against the bill which is against the people of the North Eastern states.

He said that the people of the state along with the North East will intensify the movement against the Citizen Amendment Bill 2016. He added that people of all the North East states should stand and fight unanimously against the bill. 

 Manjit further warn the government of India to be cautious in dealing the sentiment of the people as the people may left with no choice to demand a separate country from India.
