Bomb attack condemns; Protest staged

Locals and Meira Paibis of Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai staged a sit-in- protest condemning the bomb blast which took place around 5.30 pm yesterday at the residence of one Yumnam Basanta, about 49 years old,  son of late Y. Ibotombi from the same area.

Speaking to media person Yumnam Bimolata, a local Meira paibi of the area said that such attack in congested area of Yaiskul is very unfortunate.

“Who will take the responsibility if the lives of people were lost due to the impact of the blast”, She questioned and added that no prior warning from any organizations have given to the families so far.  She urged those responsible to clarify the matter and appealed to to repeat such act in the future.

“Any misunderstanding can be settled with talks either with the person whom they target or with the local meira paibi to settle the matter without violence”, she added and said that such an incident is not only a threat to the families but also to the locality. She further appealed not to repeat such dreadful act in the future.

Yumnam Tomba, while talking to media persons said that it would have been better if the persons who planned the bomb had negotiated with him personally. He expressed strong condemnation on such attack to him that could have cost the lives of many.

No ransom or extortion threat was received by him, he added.

As per  CCTV footage it was seen that around 5.30 pm yesterday two miscreants riding on a Honda Activa stopped at the gate of Yumnam Basanta who is a contractor and place a bag containing IED bomb. After moving for few meters one miscreant hurled a hand grenade towards the gate. No causalities were reported from the blast.

A Sue Moto case has also been filed at Imphal Police Station under FIR number 6(1)2019 IPS U/S 307/427/34 IPC and 3 explosive Sub Act.
