Assam Rifles in redefining its motto of being the “Sentinels of Northeast” conducted a series of Medical Camps under OP Sadbhavana, in the remote and far flung villages of Khengjoi Sub Division of Chandel district from 25 Nov 2018 to 28 Nov 2018. The series of medical camp was conducted by Moltuk battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (S) to address the medical needs, health issues and life style related problems of the villagers of the remote villages of Songyang, Khangbarol, Moltuk and Parlon wherein approximately 257 villagers including 67 male, 83 female and 107 children were given free medical consultation, diagnosis and medicines.
Moltuk battalion understood the medical needs of these villages, where not even a Primary Health Centre exists and even if, there is any, they are located far away from the reach of these villagers. Further due to the poor road connectivity in these areas majority of the villagers do not go to the hospitals or Primary Health Centre for treatment when they get sick. Hence the team of Moltuk Battalion took initiative to provide medical attention to maximum villagers of these remote and inaccessible villages and conducted the medical camp from 25 Nov to 28 Nov 18. During the camp, the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) and his medical staff treated the patients and provided free medical consultation on various diseases and health related issues. An awareness campaign and lecture on drug abuse and its adverse effects on society were conducted. During the camps the team of Moltuk Battalion motivated the villagers and youth to animate a healthy life style to lead a happy and ailment free life.
For the social awareness of the locals, the Commanding officer of Moltuk Battalion also interacted with the Chiefs and villagers and guided them on future development and business prospects for the overall development of the region. He also interacted with the youth about various avenues of employment available to them. The Commanding officer also explained various central Government schemes which can be of help in the development of villages. The villagers conveyed their heartfelt gratitude to Moltuk Battalion and Assam Rifles for extending these services and provisioning of free medical treatment and medicines to the isolated and inaccessible villages and expressed their desire to conduct such medical camps in future also.
