Imphal, Nov 12,

North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF) has drawn the attention of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for urgent action to arrest the perpetrators who attacked Ms. Angnes and Amita Sangma brutally by the illegal coal carriers truck drivers resulting in causing serious injuries on the 8th of November, 2018 for tracking the route of illegal coal filled trucks and taking photograph of it at Tuber Sehshrieh area, East Jaintia Hills District Meghalaya. It is good to recall the fact that the National Green Tribunal had banned the coal mining activities in East Jaintia Hill.
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister, the NEDF stated that as per credible information from the ground that the truck drivers and their associates were informed about the presence of Ms. Agnes and Amita and there is a high suspicion that some key leaders are behind the scene to let the attack take place by systematically mobilizing the drivers and their associates. It needs to be recalled that Ms. Agnes and Amita met few officials in EJH before the attack took place.
The NEDF further inform that in March 2018, Mr. Poipynhum Majaw was murdered for his continuous engagement with RTI work in the same District. Till date no justice is delivered to him and his family members beside a promise were made by the Police of arresting the criminal within six months from the date of commission of the crime.
On 17th April, 2018 the house of an editor of Shillong Times, Ms. Patricia Mukhim was attacked with bomb. Not a single person involved in the attacked could be seen arrested as observed till date.
In several other instances Mr. Fullmoon Dhar was attacked, Mr. Balsa Marak, 18 year old boy was killed in Tura and Mr. Witson M Sangma was killed.
The NEDF demands to communicate with the team of NHRC’s special Investigation Unit to Visit the East Jaintia Hill and Shillong, Meghalaya to investigate the aforementioned killings. Further urge to initiate an independent investigation against each of the killing specially the killing of Mr. Majaw and attacked to Ms. Agnes and Anita.
The Forum also demanded to communicate with the Government of Meghalaya to get the details of the trucks operating in the area where the attack occurred on that day and also collect all the list of the truck owners who are taking part in the transportation of coal from EJH of Meghalaya and also to communicate with UN Special Rapporteur on the Violence against Women and its consequences and UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights Defenders at the earliest.
