Chandel people stage rally demanding compensation for flood and landslide victims

Flood Victim Demand Committee (FVDC) Chandel in hands with affected Village Chiefs of Chandel today organised a mass rally at Chandel district headquarters on today in protest against the delay in first and final payment of IAY Housing Scheme Special Package Purely Sanction by the Centre Regards to 2015, Affected Floods/ Landslide Occurred in Chandel District.

Large numbers of protesters took out the rally from Indoor Stadium Chandel and proceeded toward the Office of Deputy Commissioner Chandel by holding several placards and raising slogans against the State Government.

Flood Victims Demand Committee Chandel and Affected Village Chiefs of Chandel District has earnestly appeal once again to the Government of Manipur State, against delayed first payment and final bill of lAY housing damage scheme special package in respect of Chandel District, occurred flood/landslide affected in the year of 2015, in between August and September.  

During the rally, a memorandum addressed to N.Biren Singh Chief Minister of the State, Works Minister Th.Bishwarjit, YAS & Water Resources Minister Letpao Haokip, Chief Secretary Suresh Babu and Related Union Home Ministers was handed over through Deputy Commissioner, Chandel Krishna Kumar.

In the Memorandum stated that In this connections under the aegis of flood victims demand committee Chandel and Chakpikarong Block, including beneficiaries were organized sit-in-protest on 18th August, 2018 Wednesday at Chakpikarong Bazar against the delayed payment of final bill for the August and September 2015, flood and landslide affected families in Chandel District. A memorandum addressed to the governor Dr. Najma Heptulla, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Ministry of Rural Development Krishi Bhavan New Delhi BC Behera Director (RH), YAS and IFC Minister Letpao Haokip, Work Minister, PR & RD Th. Biswajit and Chief Secretary Suresh Babu was submitted through DC Chandel. 

Flood victims demand committee Chandel and affected village Chiefs of Chakpikarong Block were strongly appealed. The government of Manipur and Concern relevant authority to release the first payment and final bill without delay, for the interest of affected victims. But the present government of Manipur does not take UP initiative to release long pending demand for the reliefs in the State of Manipur and including Chandel District till now.

However, surprisingly 20 beneficiaries house holder affected massively arise questions to the government of Manipur? for not availing of first payment. While 226 beneficiaries has been completed full amount payment and 979 beneficiaries claimed final so far. E-Payment banking was done at Imphal Secretariat RD wing.

The memorandum also stated that the beneficiaries of Chandel District IAY Special package housing damage scheme purely sanction by the centre. Regards to 2015 flood/landslide occurred in Chandel District, is being conducting/organize mass rally under the aegis of flood victims demand committee Chandel and Chief of affected villages, in respect of every blocks of Chandel and Tengnoupal District.

A memorandum is submitted to your good office, intervene immediate positive responds to release non-payment of first and final bill. Ultimatum serve within one week stipulated time to the government of Manipur day and date of Memorandum submitted, if fails to take up our demand, agitations will be resume democratic course of actions to the National Highway Moreh and Chandel etc.

Speaking at the sideline of the rally, BD Betha Convenor,Flood Victim Demand Committee (FVDC) Chandel said that the rally was organized in protest against non-payment of relief/compensation to the landslide and flood affected victims of 2015. 

Demanding for early disbursement of the relief fund, Bd.Betha also warned that the people of the Chandel will launch a series of intense agitation if the state government fails to release the relief fund.
