State government felicitates medallists and participants of Incheon Asian Games

Medallists, Athletes and Officials who had participated in the recently concluded 17th Incheon Asian Games 2014 were felicitated today by the state government at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Indoor Hall.Attending the function as President, Chief Minister of Manipur, O. Ibobi said that once again the players of the state has proved the name of ‘power house of sports persons’ by achieving laurels in games and sports at National and International levels. He appreciated all the 57 participants from the state including five officials out of the strong 516 playing contingent of India for the Incheon Asian Games. Mentioning on the issue of semi final bout fought between Laishram Sarita and Park Jina of Korea Ibobi appreciated that the whole Manipur came together and extended full support to her. He added that the people and the players of the state are valuable jewels. Ibobi further said that the incentive awards giving to the players are less comparing to other rich states but he appealed to all the players to consider the state’s financial condition and except the incentive award.Speaking on the occasion, Governor of Manipur, Dr. K.K. Paul said the players of the Manipur in the field of Boxing, Hockey, Wushu, Football and even Women athlete have been a cause of envy to not only the entire nation but other International participation in the Games. He added the players have brought honour and glory to the state as well as the nation which cannot be measured in terms of money and the cash incentives being given today is a token of appreciation from our heart. Paul further said that the players will be given full support for the coming Rio Olympics. He also appreciated all the sports’ associations and Manipur Olympic Association for their efforts in producing players of high calibres. He further said that the state should build the tendency on inherent strength. It’s largely due to the consistent high level performance of our athletes the government of India has decided to establish the National Sports University here in Manipur, added Paul.Players who achieved gold and bronze medals were felicitated with cash incentive of Rs. 15 Lakhs each and Rs. 8 Lakhs each respectively. Along with the players five officials from the state who had accompanied the Indian contingent in Archery, football, hockey, wrestling and cycling were also felicitated with cash incentive of Rs. 2 Lakhs each.The felicitation was organised by Department of Youth Affair and Sports, Govt. of Manipur Olympic Association. Deputy Chief Minister, Gaikhangam, I. Hemochandra, Minister, PHED, Labour and Employment and President of Manipur Olympic Association, M. Prithviraj Singh attended the function as Guests of Honour.
