Rights group decries interference to police investigation on ‘Thanga gang rape’ case

Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) condemned politician interference to the proceeding of the investigation Thanga gang rape case.
A statement of the Human Rights group said that one political influential person from Thanga has been interfering the case by giving pressure to  Special Investigation Team (SIT), Bishnupur police and members of Juvenile Justice Board, Bishnupur against the arrest of any of his relatives. The person taking advantage of being close with the ruling BJP even threaten to transfer suspend police personnel if they arrest any of his relatives, the statement added.
Special Investigation Team (SIT), Bishnupur police and members of Juvenile Justice Board, Bishnupur are investigating over the Thanga Gang Rape case at which a minor girl was kidnapped by four persons  and rape on  February 13 this year.      
The statement said that one among the four culprit who is yet to be arrested and the vehicle used in kidnapping the minor girl happened to be the brother-in-law of the politically influential person from Thanga. The victim minor girl had already identified the culprit before the SIT and the Bishnupur Police.
The Human Rights group appealed the SIT, Bishnupur Police and JJB, Bishnupur to act accordingly in the best interest of the public at this point of aggressive sentimental uproar of the people across the state demanding for a Manipur State Anti Rape Law due to increase in cases of rape and other form of crime against women and children.
“We expect that the JJB Bishnupur will come out with a positive response or landmark Judgement on the next sitting of the board in the best interest of the public”, the statement said.
Three accused have been arrested in connection with this particular gang rape case are seeking for bail on the ground of education.
YFPHR, had submitted a complaint to the DGP of Manipur to arrest the person influencing the investigation and threatening the police of transferring and suspending them. Also have written to the JJB, Bishnupur to transfer the matter to the adult court as the two among the three are eligible for trail at an adult court, the statement added.
