Surrendered militants unhappy with govt.; call 36 hours general strike

Imphal, April 12

Armed underground militants, who had surrendered to the government and have been living a normal life are not happy with the government as they are not being provided what the government had promised them under the Surrenderee Rehabilitation schemes.
In a press meet, held today at Manipur Press Club today afternoon, vice president of the All Manipur Surrender Welfare Association (ANSWA), Abdul Latif announced 36 hour general strike from the midnight of April 15, if the government fails to provide the beneficiaries that they are supposed to get under the surrendered scheme by April 14.
As according to the Vice president, at present 41 surrendered cadres regularly attends the office out of the 105 cadres. Some could not attend and some have expired due to poverty, Atif said.
He further added that they surrendered to the government to live a normal live on the belief that they will be provided opportunity to survive in par with other people after getting the beneficiaries under the surrendered scheme.
“We have been verified by the CID department and all necessary procedure have been followed, but officials are delaying in handing out what we are suppose to get under the policy”, he added.
