Imphal, Feb 9: Protesting against the alleged discriminatory and undemocratic decision of the Manipur Cabinet in renaming the erstwhile Thangting Sub – Division to Kangvai in lieu of the popular sentiment for Khousabung, the public of the proposed Khousabung Sub – Division is gearing up to observe Black Day tomorrow, the day the Okram Ibobi Singh Government took the illogical decision two years ago.

The Manipur Cabinet chaired by the then Chief Minister Okram Ibobi decided to renamed the erstwhile Thangting Sub – Division to Kangvai despite majority of the village chiefs expressing their support for Khousabung Sub – Division on February 10, 2016.

“The Cabinet decision of the then Congress Government was highly unacceptable and condemnable”, said an Activist.

Khousabung is the most centrally located location in and around Thangting / Thangjing Hills Range, which has been the Headquarters of 01 – Khousabung District Council Constituency since 1972.

With the popular sentiments running high against the then Congress  Government due to alleged discrimination and victimisation, the Congress strongman and Minister T Manga Vaiphei failed to get re-elected from Henglep AC in 2017 Assembly election.

The mandate of Henglep AC in 2017 Assembly election indicates that the Feb 10 decision of the Manipur Cabinet was undemocratic, illogical and unacceptable, said an Activist pointing out that the Henglep AC mandate was for Khousabung Sub – Division.

Sources said that the then Congress Government took the decision over looking the majority choice as the BJP nominee was elected to the Autonomous District Council election in 2015 from 01 – Khousabung District Council Constituency. “This is nothing but political victimisation for electing the first BJP MDC in Churachandpur ADC”, said an Activist.

The Black Day would be observed to denounce the illogical decision of the Okram Ibobi Government and to press for expedite creation of Khousabung Sub – Division to meet the end of justice.

Wall poster campaign and campaign through social media are in in full swing for tomorrow’s Black Day.
