It’s Narco-Terrorism, not ethnic clash: PAPPM

Imphal, June 2:

The People’s Alliance for Peace and Progress, Manipur, (PAPPM) on Friday, refuted the assertion that the brewing violence in Manipur since May 3, 2023 is an ethnic clash, by claiming that ‘it is an act of narco-terrorism.’ The organization has filed a petition, citing the “silence” of the Indian state on narco-terrorism as the main reason.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club, President of PAPPM, M. Bobby Meitei said: “Our organization wish to refute the claim that the present human crisis in Manipur is an ethnic clash between Kukis and the Meiteis. And we believe this style of narrative by the Army Chief, security officers, bureaucrats, politicians and CSOs or even by the media fraternity is too simple and misleading that is dangerous to the idea of Manipur.”
Bobby added that the organization made every possible effort to grasp the pattern of aggression against Manipur, the perpetrators involved in the attacks, types of weapons used as well as their modus operandi and concluded that the violence is not an ethnic conflict but an act of narco-terrorism and external aggression against Manipur in which the Chin-Kuki-Mizo terrorists are the prime movers.
“The perpetrators include the Kuki SoO and non-SoO militants, consisting of around 30 outfits, People’s Democratic Front militants from Myanmar,” Bobby claimed.
The organization also appeals to all not to fall into the trap, of what they claimed, was the ploy of the narco-terrorists in their design to convert the present crisis into an ethnic clash by attacking innocent civilians and their properties.
