ISRJDC announces indefinite bandh from December 24

Imphal–Saikul Road Joint Development Committee (ISRJDC) has announced an indefinite bandh along the Imphal–Saikul road stretch from 5 a.m. of December 24, 2025, citing prolonged negligence and inaction by both the former State Government and the present PR Government in addressing repeated demands for repair of the deteriorated road.
The announcement was made by the Convenor of the committee, Tonjam Somorjit, while speaking to reporters at the office of the Pangei Yangdong Youths Development Association today.
Addressing the media, Tonjam Somorjit stated that the committee and residents of the affected areas had exercised restraint and refrained from launching intense agitation even after the expiry of an earlier ultimatum, considering the ongoing school and college examinations. He said that any form of agitation during the examination period could adversely affect the academic future of students. However, he added that despite repeated appeals, no visible steps have been taken for the repair or renovation of the damaged road stretch to date.
As a result, the committee has decided to enforce a closure of the road from December twenty-four. Somorjit further stated that the decision would not be rolled back until the government initiates concrete measures to repair the road.
Somorjit said that after submitting memorandum time and again the last time the committee had submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur on November 22, seeking urgent intervention for the repair of the deteriorating road within 15 days. 15 days has been over and still no measures for repairing the road are seen. On December 22 the committee had issued a press statement announcing to call bandh if no action is taken up, he said.
The press interaction was attended by residents of the Pangei area.
