Thoubal, May.21: Manipur Network for Positive People (MNP+) Thoubal organised the 34th International Candle Light Memorial under the aegis of Manipur AIDS Control Society at the conference hall of District Health Society, Thoubal.
The theme of this year’s observation was “Ending AIDS Together.” Chairperson of Thoubal Municipal Council Th Shyamo was the chief guest, president of MNP+ Thoubal Ningombam Ranjit was the president and CMO Thoubal Dr Jayantakumar and district program manager of DHST Chingangbam Basanta were the special guests.
The candle light service in the memory of the people who had died from HIV/AIDS and related causes was led by the chief guest. It was followed by paying of floral tributes and prayers for their souls to rest in peace with the participants holding hands and observing a two-minute silence.
The Thoubal district ART Centre has 976 registration out of which 547 are on ART while the rest are on pre ART treatment. On the other hand 846 people have registered at the MNP+ inclusive of 191 widows and 81 children. The meeting also emphasized on the need for Thoubal District Hospital to provide special care for people with HIV/AIDS particularly the pregnant women.
