Internet service in Manipur: Govt. ‘lifts ban’ on Broadband Service from today

State government has lifted the ban on broadband service on conditional basis while the data service will continue to be banned in view of the prevailing law and order condition.
An order issued by the Commissioner (Home) of the government of Manipur today said, ‘Earlier suspension on internet service (ILL and FTTH) is lifted conditionally in a liberalised manner…”.
Internet service in the state has been banned since May 3 (except for some exempted case), in the aftermath of the violence that broke out Churachandpur district. There has been request from various professionals to lift the banned-on internet and the matter even reached the Manipur High Court and later to the Supreme Court of India. The Supreme Court had recently directed to uphold the ruling of the Manipur High Court at which the Manipur High Court had directed the Manipur Government to take up measures for the partial lifting of the internet ban.
As per an order of the Commissioner (Home) , Government of Manipur issued today, the government of Manipur had reviewed the issues of the ban on the internet since 3/05/2023 continuously without any break (except for the exempted cases) and considered the suffering of the Common as the internet ban had affected important offices/ institutions, cohort of people on work from home basis, Chattered Accountant firms, lawyers, health facilities, refueling centres, recharging of electricity/ mobile, booking for LPG, educational institutions, Taxation related offices, other online based citizen-centric services etc.
