A sit-in protest was organised today by the All Manipur Women’s Social Information & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai Community Hall.
Talking to media persons president of the Nupi Samaj Ramani said that the government India has no respect for the women of Manipur. She said that since the 1980s women of the state have been raped and tortured in the name of counter-insurgency operations. She said that Thangjam Manorama was arrested by the Assam Rifles and found killed by hitting with multiple bullets after being gang raped. Even today no accused has been punished and no compensation has been granted to the family of Manorama.
Ramani further said that the government quickly responded to the case of two Kuki women being paraded by a mob and paid compensation however, the same remain silent regarding the rape of 37 years old married woman in Churachandpur on May 3.
The Nupi Samaj said that Kuki Narco-terrorist cannot stay with the Meitei people as they even killed Meitei people while they were sleeping. Ramani said that until the Kukis are fully driven out from the soil of Manipur, the women folk will continue their struggle to drive out the Kukis.
