IGNOU’s 37th Convocation Marks Academic Achievements and Commitment to Distance Education

Imphal, Feb 20:

The 37th Convocation Ceremony of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was held to celebrate the academic accomplishments of its students and reaffirming its commitment to distance education. The main event took place at IGNOU’s campus in New Delhi, with live telecast/webcast/broadcast available for wider accessibility.
Jagdeep Dhankar, Vice President of India, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, adding prestige to the ceremony. Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor of IGNOU, presided over the event, awarding degrees, diplomas, and certificates to successful students who had passed the December 2022 and June 2023 Term End Examinations.
A total of 3,08,584 degrees, diplomas, and certificates were conferred during the ceremony. Among these, 96 were Ph.Ds, 1 was MPhil, 125,025 were Master’s degrees, 124,403 were Bachelor’s degrees, 45,858 were diplomas, and 13,201 were certificates.
In addition to the main event in New Delhi, convocation ceremonies were also organized at 39 Regional Centres of IGNOU, including the Regional Centre in Imphal. Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour at the Imphal ceremony.
Dr. S. Dilan Singh, Regional Director of IGNOU Regional Centre Imphal, highlighted the significant contributions of IGNOU to higher education, community education, and professional development since its inception. He emphasized the pivotal role of the Imphal Regional Centre in spearheading open and distance learning activities in Manipur, catering to diverse learner groups across the state.
Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, in his Convocation address, congratulated the successful students and commended the efforts of IGNOU Regional Centre Imphal. He emphasized the transformative impact of distance education in addressing the diverse educational needs of Indian society and stressed the importance of leveraging innovative technologies and methodologies mandated in NEP 2020.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of degrees to successful learners by Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, in the presence of Dr. S. Dilan Singh, Regional Director of IGNOU Regional Centre Imphal.
