Imphal, Jan 27:

A fierce gunfight erupted early this morning near Indo-Myanmar Border Pillar 87, located between Kamjong district and Kabaw Valley, after Kuki National Army (KNA-B) attack rebel groups from Manipur using sophisticated weapons.
According to reports, the KNA-B militants launched a coordinated attack on a suspected group of rebels, believed to be from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), around 2:30 AM. The attack was carried out from three different directions, prompting an immediate and intense retaliation from the target group.
Sources in the area revealed that the ongoing battle continued well into the morning hours, with heavy casualties on both sides. Four KNA-B militants were confirmed dead, and 13 weapons were reportedly seized by the defending rebel group.
A local source speculated that as many as 10 KNA-B cadres may have been killed, though this number has yet to be verified. In addition, four rebels sustained minor injuries during the initial phase of the attack. Later in the morning, two more rebels were injured, one of whom is in critical condition.
The clash is the latest in a series of violent confrontations in the region, which has seen increasing instability due to rival rebel groups operating near the border. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the situation.
