Guv, CM and others greets people on Nupi Lal Day

Manipur Governor La. Ganesan, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh , and IPR Minister Th. Biswajit Singh greeted the people of the state on occasion of the Nupi Lal Day which is to be observed on December 12, 2021.
It is quite befitting to remember those large number of Manipuri women who fought against the oppressive economic and administrative policies of Manipur Maharaja and the then British Government in Manipur in the year, I 939, They stormed at the State Durbar Office asking, for immediate stoppage of rice export, in which around 21 women were injured from the bayonets and butts of soldiers’ weapons on December 12, 1939. The day is remembered as Nupi (Women) Lal (War) Numit (Day), the Governor said in his message.
In his message, Chief Minister N. Siren Singh said that Nupi Lal is undeniably the most important movement of the Manipuri women in the colonial era. The agitation witnessed the courage and leadership of Manipuri women. Even today, our womenfolk take the lead on various issues and have been bringing socio-political reforms in our State.
Minister Th. Biswajit Singh Minister in his message to the people on occasion of the Nupi Lal Day joins the people of the State in paying rich tributes to the brave “Imas” of Manipur who fought against the exploitative policies of the then colonial rule.
“Nupi Lal Numit is observed every year on December 12, remembering our brave “Imas” who revolted against the export of rice which had triggered an artificial famine in the State in December of 1939. The day occupies a unique place in the history of the State as the courage, sacrifice and patriotism of the Manipuri women came to the fore”, Minister Biswajit wrote.
